Fun things to do in Reno for couples

When Josh and I started dating, we passed through Reno often. Long-distance dating forced us to pass through the Biggest Little City once a month. Getting to Reno is simple. The airport is small and convenient. Interstate 80 runs east and west through the city, providing smooth travel to and from Reno.

We have explored Reno on our frequent trips to and from the airport. This is our list of fun things to do in Reno for couples.

Share all-you-can-eat Sushi

You wouldn’t expect the middle of the desert to offer all-you-can-eat Sushi, but this is a Reno specialty. This is a perfect date option for lunch and dinner. A sushi date never gets old; trying new rolls at new places. Reno has sushi for days.

An all-you-can-eat menu offers plenty to stuff you stilly for $19 – $38 per person, depending on lunch or dinner. Sushimi is our first pick. This restaurant is on top of a ridgeline in a southwest Reno neighborhood with great city views.

Our fave rolls here are the Lulu, Firecracker, and Skyline. I keep a “Sushi Roll List” on my phone to note our fave at each place.

Check out a minor-league baseball game.

Reno is home to the Reno Aces. The Aces Baseball Club is the triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They play at the Greater Nevada Field, along the Truckee River Front near central/downtown Reno.

Baseball fans or not, this small ballpark offers walking all the way around the outfield. Take a stroll and hold hands; three laps make a mile around the field. Check for fun promotional nights. Try Taco Tuesdays. Stay for the fireworks on the weekends after the game.

Bring a blanket and have a picnic on the right field grass. Snuggle and cuddle after the sun sets. Maybe even catch a home run ball for your honey.

Splurge on a high-floor outdated hotel room

I appreciate stepping back into time at one of the outdated casinos. Let the smell of smoke fill my senses. But seriously, hold your breath through the lobby until you get to your room on the high floors. The views of the Carson Range and the leeward side of the Sierra can’t be beat.

Take a bath next to your bed. Yes, that’s right, go for the room with the mauve sunk-in tub at the foot of your bed. Appreciate the era and be thankful for how far we’ve come in interior design.

Reno will host some decent musical guests. It’s an affordable way to rock out and crash at the same hotel for the night.

Go bowling

Reno is home to the National Bowling Stadium. This “Taj Mahal of Tenpins” is the only kind of facility of its kind in the world. Put on a pair of those still steamy and warm rental shoes and play a game—just a game, not 3. Bowling is surprisingly taxing on the body. Be warned. Even the fittest of skiers and bikers will be sore from this sport.

Try the food. Bowling alley food should not be judged. It may not compare to the sushi, but you’d be surprised what the bowling alley kitchen can whip up.

These are just some of our favorite fun things to do in Reno for couples. We’re still exploring and will be back to share more as we discover activities we enjoy doing together.
